Introvert? Extrovert?
Aren't these categories pegging people as one or the other? I personally don't like drawing such sweeping generalizations. Aren't many people both? Like astrological signs!
A lot is talked about introverts and their struggles. I get it. According to the definitions I've read and heard about, I'm an introvert. I prefer small groups. I enjoy my solitude. I get lots of wonderfully productive thinking, inspiration, and doing time by myself. I can spend hours and hours alone. I'm good with it.
But I also fit the profile of an extrovert! I love social interactions and meeting new people. I find it also productive, inspiring, and driving action.
And then I'm shy, too. I can be restrained and not seek attention because it makes me feel uncomfortable.
A lot of us are all of those things.
Some people may be more one way than the other. It depends on the situation, on what is happening around us, on what the circumstances are of who and how we are at a certain moment.
Why put yourself into a straitjacket of being? There's a lot more to us than meets a narrow perspective, of pigeonholing ourselves as one thing or another. In fact, unless that affirmation of “I am this'“ or “I am that” is liberating, it’s limiting. Reflect on your moment and follow and accept your natural rhythms. Embrace yourself for who and how you are.
I'm a voice and break-through coach. I help you grow your confidence, presence, and vocal strength to show up and feel up to the moment at hand.
